For the first time in over 20 years, the Core Competencies of Coaching, which are the main skills coaches use, are changing.

The International Coach Federation developed the Core Competencies in 1998 to ensure excellence for coaching world wide.

These skills have served as the coaching toolkit and have been revised to reflect an updated understanding of coaching and how it acknowledges the whole person, identity, life experience and culture.

The 8 updated Core Competencies replace the 11 original ones.

Several have been combined and one new core competency, Embodies a Coaching Mindset, has been created.
